Depression

Depression, a very common emotional disorder that makes mood fluctuate widely. Its nothing but a feeling of dullness that also makes you feel that whole world is lifeless.

Symptoms that persist are sadness in every form. Whether it is minor or major but the people having this problem usually have a very imbalanced life and that is how this disorder forms place. Other factors can be lack of sleep, loss of interest and energy, frequent nightmares, low blood pressure, constipation, harsh feelings, egotism, memory loss, not being able to make decisions, low diet, nausea, irritability, aches and pains all over body, digestive problems, anxiety, irritability, oversleeping, lack of concentration and disinterest in almost every field.

Excess of fat in the body, which is caused by some digestive problem, creates a space for general depression; excess of carbohydrates may also result in indigestion. You must be thinking what’s the connection of depression with digestive system but yes there are some factors. What happens is, is that due to indigestion gases are formed in the digestive tract which causes stiffness near lungs and heart. The result is less supply of oxygen and increase in carbon dioxide levels in the body causing general depression.

There are many form of depressions and might vary according to seasons, environment, psychologically, and fluctuating temperatures. Depression does not last long but if they make place in your life, it can lead to suicides or other illness.

Aromatherapy may ease mental fatigue and help with sleep. The essential oils that may benefit depression are Basil, Jasmine, Rose, Bergamot, Sandalwood and Chamomile.

How to use ?

All these oils can be either inhaled or used as bath oil. However, a massage is the most stimulating and relaxing method. Actually these oils, some work as effective tonic, some refresh and soothe, and some act like sedative, making a person feel good and relaxed. That’s why when a person is depressed one should use relaxing or stimulating oils.

There are limitations on essential oils too and one should take note of some points before using it, like avoiding basil oil in excess as it can lead to depression, rather than reducing it. On should avoid using basil oil during pregnancy. Bergamot oil can irritate the skin, so to avoid this use application of this oil only less than 1 per cent.
